 Award giving ceremony of 7th Berger Award for Excellence in Architecture held

On December 7, 2015, the award giving ceremony of 7th Berger Award for Excellence in Architecture (BAEA) was held at the International Convention Center Bashundhara (ICCB), Dhaka.
Through joint collaboration of Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited and Institute of Architects Bangladesh, this competition has reached its 12th year. Since 2003, the competition has been taking place biannually to recognize the exceptional projects of brilliant architects across the country.
In the program, Rupali Chowdhury, Managing Director, Berger Paints, welcomed the prominent architects and congratulated the winners in her speech. Architect Abu Sayed M Ahmad, President, IAB highlighted the achievements of this award program in the twelve years from its inception. Award Coordinator of 7th BAEA program, Ar. Ehsan Khan also spoke on the occasion.
As always, awards were given in 5 different categories this year - Single Family Residence, Multi Family Residence, Commercial or Mercantile, Industrial and Others. In addition, there was one more category under Berger Young Architects? Award.
The winner of Single Residence Category was Ar. Lufullahil Majid. He was awarded for his project- Vacation House in Rampal, Khulna. The other commendation awards in this category were received by Ar. Jalal Ahmed and Ar. Mohammad Shahnawaz for Subornodighi situated at Sreepur, Gazipur. In the Multi Family Residence, Ar. Jalal Ahmed was the winner for Disappearing Lands: Supporting Communities Affected by River Erosion Project at Charitabari Village, Sundergonj, Gaibandha. Ar. Md. Jubair Hasan was awarded as the winner in the Industrial Category for Loom Shed for Amber Denim at Rajendrapur, Gazipur. The architects of Bay Edge Water at Gulshan 2, Dhaka- Ar. Mahmudul Anwar Riyaad and Ar. Mamnoon M Chowdhury were the winners in the Commercial Category. There were two winners for the Others Category for two different projects. The projects were Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) at Farmgate, Dhaka and Peda Ting Ting Gallary Cafe at Gulshan, Dhaka. Ar. Istiaque Zahir, Ar. Iqbal Habib and Ar. Nayera Hoque of Vitti Sthapati Brindo Ltd. and Ar. Nazmul Haque Sarker were awarded for these projects respectively. In the Young Architects? Award Category, Ar. Sharif Jahir Hossain was awarded for Ashaloy at Betua, Bhuapur, Tangail.
Rupali Chowdhury, Managing Director, Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited handed over the crests and Architect Abu Sayed M Ahmad, President, IAB presented the certificates to the award winners.
Prominent architects, senior officials from Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited and IAB and representatives of mass media were also present on this occasion. The event wrapped up with a musical program by famous band Joler Gaan followed by dinner.
